DO YOU BELIEVE IN CATHOLIC EDUCATION
The faith of so many Catholics was nurtured and developed by attending a Catholic school. Bishop Declan wishes to appoint new school governors to support the education of today’s generation of pupils. Whether you enjoyed the benefit of attending a Catholic school or not, how would you like to support Catholic education by becoming a school governor? Governors come from all walks of life and backgrounds – and why not? If you have enthusiasm and commitment, then you can help to positively influence the lives of children. Visit https://schools.cliftondiocese.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Could-you-be-a-School-Governor.pdf or contact Bill McEntree, 07710094976 for more information and for details of how to apply.

Asbestos Exposure While Pregnant
Asbestos, a mineral that was used in various products and throughout buildings, is known to cause mesothelioma cancer. If a pregnant mother is exposed to asbestos then it can have effects on her and her child. We wanted to make a guide that details everything we know and need to know about asbestos exposure while pregnant. Check it out:

Also, here is a guide that outlines everything to know about mesothelioma, which complements our other guide.

Rosary for Peace
Members of the Legion of Mary from Bristol Metropolis Have embarked on praying the Rosary for peace on Saturday of every fortnight at the Grounds of Broadmead in Bristol City Centre at 2.00pm.
It is open to every interested member of the church and the public. We have had non-Catholics joining in the prayer. St Patrick’s Praesidium “Our Lady Untie of Knots is ably represented every time.
The grave challenges confronting the world at the start of this new Millennium lead us to think that only an intervention from on high, capable of guiding the hearts of those living in situations of conflict and those governing the destinies of nations, can give reason to hope for a brighter future.
“When once men recognize, both in private and public life, that Christ is King, society will at last receive the great blessings of real liberty, well-ordered discipline, peace and harmony.” Pope Pius XI, The Encyclical on the Kingship of Christ.
The Rosary is also a prayer for peace because of the fruits of charity which it produces. Praying the rosary for peace will produce peace among people and nations. When prayed well in a truly meditative way, the Rosary leads to an encounter with Christ in his mysteries and so cannot fail to draw attention to the face of Christ in others, especially in the most afflicted. How could one possibly contemplate the mystery of the Child of Bethlehem, in the joyful mysteries, without experiencing the desire to welcome, defend and promote life, and to shoulder the burdens of suffering children all over the world?
Apostolic Letter “Rosarium Virginis Mariae” of the Supreme Pontiff John Paul Ii to the Bishops, Clergy and Faithful on The Most Holy Rosary Article 6 “Prayer for Peace and for the Family” states
“A number of historical circumstances also make a revival of the Rosary quite timely. First of all, the need to implore from God the gift of peace. The Rosary has many times been proposed by my predecessors and myself as a prayer for peace. At the start of a millennium which began with the terrifying attacks of 11 September 2001, a millennium which witnesses every day innumerous parts of the world fresh scenes of bloodshed and violence, to rediscover the Rosary means to immerse oneself in contemplation of the mystery of Christ, who “is our peace”, since he made “the two of us one, and broke down the dividing wall of hostility” (Eph 2:14). Consequently, one cannot recite the Rosary without feeling caught up in a clear commitment to advancing peace, especially in the land of Jesus, still so sorely afflicted and so close to the heart of every Christian”.
The World need peace today more than ever. From Ukraine to Russia, Gaza and Israel, Lebanon and the entire Middle East. Let us come together to pray for peace in the world through Our Mother Mary The Queen of Peace and Our Lord and Saviour The Prince of Peace.
“If you want peace in your heart, in your home, in your country, assemble together every night and say the Rosary.” ~ Pope St. Pius X.
The next dates are 6th July; 20th July and 03rd August 2024
History
In the 1970s Charismatic Renewal brought a wave of the Holy Spirit in India, especially the southern state of Kerala, gave rise to several catholic youth groups which encountered Jesus and the Gospel in a renewed and refreshing way. In 1985, these youth groups connected with each other and came together for a large conference. The conference was called ‘Jesus Youth 85’ and the young people who attended the conference began to call themselves ‘Jesus Youth’
Today this is an international movement with presence in 30 countries around the world. The strength of our movement is a special focus on personal relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus Youth still remains a network of small but vibrant groups of young people and families. While facing our own challenges in life we try to give time to Jesus and the people around us.
In may 2016, the Pontifical Council for Laity recognised Jesus youth as an International Private Association of the Faithful with Juridical Personality. Jesus Youth is the first in India and second in Asia to get such a recognition.
Spirituality, formation and way of working
Jesus Youth has a structured formation programme which helps its members to grow as faithful disciples of Christ through the six pillars of the movement.
The six pillars are Daily Prayer, Sacraments, Word of God, Fellowship, Evangelisation and Option for the Poor.
The work we do in the UK and Bristol
Jesus Youth have been working together with various arms of the Catholic Church and other youth movements to organise Faith Formation programmes, Catechist Trainings, Gospel Music Concerts, Pilgrimages (most notably Walsingham) and Retreats for Families, Youth and Teens. Jesus Youth is officially part of the ‘Spirit in the City’ initiative of Westminster diocese. We are also part of the various Pro-Life campaigns across the country. This movement is now active in 19 dioceses in the UK. Please find more details in our website Jesus youth UK
In Bristol, we conduct a monthly Night Vigil in various parishes in Bristol, enriched with Worship sessions, Sharings and Reflections, Eucharistic Adoration and Eucharistic Celebration. We also have a weekly prayer meeting focused on youth, conducted in the Parish Church of St Nicholas of Tolentino and a weekly Eucharistic adoration at our Lady of Rosary church, Lawrence Western. We also have a monthly teens gathering and a bi-weekly prayer meeting at St Joseph Church,Fishponds. We are open to new initiatives to reach out to more people and share the love of Jesus.
We look forward to meeting with you in person sometime as per your availability to seek opportunities to work together wherever possible. We remain thankful for all the support we have received so far from you and the Parish. And we promise to remember you in our humble prayers.
In Christ,
Jino Johnson

INTERESTS
There is an opportunity on Saturday, June 8, at St Bernadette’s Secondary School, Whitchurch, Bristol, for the whole diocese to deepen our understanding and love for the Eucharist as we grow in our desire to be a people of communion, participating together as the Body of Christ so that we may be the Body of Christ to the world. It is particularly appropriate for parishioners who are Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and would fulfil the requirement for the annual retreat in preparation for recommissioning. It is also a helpful introduction to those who might like to support the priest in this ministry.
We are delighted that Fr. Michael McAndrew will lead us in our reflections and conversations. The day will include a time of prayerful Adoration with words, music, and silence. Refreshments will be available at 9.30 am. Attendees are asked to bring a packed lunch. We will finish by 4 pm.
Please use the Eventbrite link: https://cliftoneucharist.eventbrite.co.uk/ to register for the day. You are most welcome!
With all good wishes
Sarah
Dear Father
We are inviting you to join us on Saturday 18 May at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College (Broomhill Road, Brislington, Bristol, BS4 5RQ) for Living the Common Good: Discerning Challenges and Responses. We are blessed to have Jenny Sinclair from Together for the Common Good guiding us through our discernment process, and focusing on identifying the specific areas for mission in our communities as well as the practical steps we can take to serve those needs and proclaim the Gospel by our lives.
We have attached a poster for you to promote this event in your parishes, and have provided a short description of the event for your parish newsletter, or to share on your parish website:

Act now to stop DIY abortion up to birth
MPs Diana Johnson and Stella Creasy have both tabled amendments to the Government’s Criminal Justice Bill that would decriminalise abortion. In different ways, they would essentially legalise DIY abortion up to birth, for any reason.
Please contact your MP urgently, asking them to oppose these extreme and barbaric proposals. You can do this using SPUC’s easy to use webtool, at https://www.spuc.org.uk/abortionamendments. The amendments will be debated on 4 June, so please contact your MP NOW.
Please pray for the defeat of these amendments, for protection of unborn babies, and help and comfort for mothers in need.
There will also be a rally and prayer vigil outside Parliament on 4 June, held jointly with other pro-life organisations. If your parish is in or within reach of London, and you’d like to advertise it to your parishoners, please let me know and I can send the full details.
To assist with the spiritual dimension of this struggle to save innocent lives, we have produced a booklet on leading a Holy Hour for Life, which is a great resource for praying for the defeat of this amendment, It can be found here.
Thank you for your help with this. Please come back to me if I or the SPUC team can be of any assistance to you.
With every best wish,
