Dear Parishioner,
As I begin my second year as Headteacher of St Bernadette Catholic Secondary School I wanted to provide you news of some of the exciting developments at the school over the course of the past academic year. As your local Catholic Secondary School, it is important that you are aware of our students’ continuing successes.
We are extremely proud of our students’ achievements. Our students achieved record results in their GCSE examinations in the summer. As well as this we have had success in both academic events such as the Catenians public speaking competition and numerous sporting successes.
Over the past year students have been able to return to extra-curricular activities and we have significantly overhauled our cultural offer to students, with trips to the opera, theatre and Bletchley Park to name a few.
Our retreat programme has returned in person this year and we have been able to grow our links with the local universities through a range of different activities. We have had some fantastic speakers coming in to visit us from the explorer Preet Chandi to the Provost of King’s College, Cambridge University and professionals from a variety of industries.
The building has seen a great deal of refurbishment including a new cricket green, dance studio and tennis/netball courts.
In the classroom we have developed a new approach to our teaching methods and further developed our curriculum with reference Catholic social teaching, scholarship and subject expertise. We have also worked closely with students to further develop our school values in light of the Gospel Values.
Yours faithfully,
Edward Walker
Headteacher
